About

ai-image-1The Perceptron is a student-run blog about machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI). The officers of the Bronx Science Machine Learning Club started the blog in the spring of 2019 in order to disseminate their knowledge of ML with others. The Perceptron offers in-depth coverage of a diverse set of ML topics ranging from decision trees to convolutional neural networks to reinforcement learning. We aim to simplify these topics so that everyone can gain a nuanced understanding of machine learning. By doing so we hope to promote greater engagement with technology and other STEM fields.

We post articles on a bi-weekly basis, so be sure to regularly check our website for the latest posts. We hope that you will engage with the articles by leaving comments. Your feedback means a lot to us, and we will do our best to respond when appropriate. Also, if you like our content and support our mission, be sure to subscribe to our mailing list by entering your email address in the side bar to the right. Our Vision

In the past machine learning and artificial intelligence have been widely viewed as out of reach for the lay person. Instead, these disciplines have been restricted to academia and narrow parts of industry. There is a common perception that a person has to possess a great deal of technical knowledge in order to start learning ML. This is entirely wrong! Anyone can become proficient in ML, and we hope to provide a platform where you can start growing your knowledge. Our carefully tailored content will hopefully spark your curiosity and set you on a path towards mastering ML.

Our Background

ai-image-2We are a group of students from the Bronx High School of Science who are interested in machine learning and artificial intelligence. We come from different backgrounds: Some of us are interested in creative arts, others in scientific research; some of us want to be doctors, others want to become software developers. However, we all share the belief that artificial intelligence and machine learning hold tremendous promise for our society if used ethically. We, as citizens and leaders of tomorrow, feel a collective responsibility to educate ourselves and others about these technologies so that we can advocate for their proper use. Above all, we choose to embrace rather than reject AI for its potential to do good in our society.
